How To Make Your Hair Extensions Last Longer
Share
As women, we grow up yearning for long, luscious hair. We watched Disney movies full of Princesses with tresses tumbling down castle towers and we were convinced that great hair was the way to a great life.
We totally understand that a set of hair extensions is a beauty investment that needs looking after. You want your set to look just as good as it did the first time you took them out of the box and make you feel just as confident. So, to help you on your way we’ve put together a few easy tips that will make your hair extensions last longer.
1. Comb Your Hair Extensions Properly
While combing your hair seems like such a simple, mundane task, it’s actually much more elaborate than you may think. This is especially true when wearing glue in hair extensions. Here are some things to remember the next time you brush your tape in tresses:
Comb your extensions at least twice a day (morning and night). but not too much.
Comb hair before the shower as it becomes weaker when wet.
Comb from the bottom up to deter tangles, pulling, and stress.
Always use a wide tooth hair extension comb.
2.Place Importance on your Daily Hair Care
In addition to comb, there are many additional things you can do to make your tape-in hair extensions last longer.
Use proper, premium hair care products.
Use a leave in conditioner to deter tangles.
Avoid roughly rubbing the strips of extensions when shampooing.
Condition from mid-shaft down and not on your roots.
Never sleep with wet tape in hair extensions.
Use protectant spray when styling with hot iron tools.
Never use a hot iron on the tape tabs.
3.Don’t wash them Too frequent
Hair extensions don’t benefit from the natural oils from your scalp like your own hair does, so you don’t need to wash them anywhere near as often. Most people won’t need to wash their hair extensions at all and it’s better to avoid it as you could strip the moisture out of the hair if you’re not super careful. If you wear them a lot, have too much product buildup and 100% have to wash them then read our tips here first.
4.Don’t sleep or workout in them
The most important rule of clip-in extensions is not to wear them to bed. This is because all that tossing and turning could put strain on the clips and pull out the wefts, damaging your natural hair as well as tangling the wefts. Take them out before bed and store them in their box to make sure you both have a good night's sleep. Please don’t wear your extensions to the gym either! All the sweat from your head will do them no favours and you’ll also be putting strain on the wefts, so it’s best to avoid working out in them too.
While maintaining tape-in hair extensions is exceptionally easy, these hair care tips will make them last longer. So, if you want them for longer than 5-6 months (and who doesn’t?), this is the way to do it.
